Gas passes through air filter first to extract any liquids and remove solids or other particulate matter that may be in the gas stream. The gas enters the gas compressor directly after it has been cleaned. In the air end, the gas is compressed to the required pressure. As gas is compressed, heat is generated and must be dissipated to cool the gas stream before leaving the compressor facility. For every 100 psi increase in pressure, the gas  temperature increases by 7-8 degrees.

The heat generated by the operation of the compressor units is dissipated via a sealed coolant system similar to an automotive radiator. Usually there are two cooling methods: Air cooling and Water cooling. Air cooling is applied more widely because its low cost and easy maintenance. People achieve air cooling by installing heat exchanger and fan. These are two conventional components in industrial field and are easy to obtain. Thanks to the common use, market price for heat exchanger and fan are relatively at a low. It’s much more economical for end users to operate. However water cooling method is often used in heavy-duty gas compressors which need to be better cooled. It’s may a little expensive when purchasing a new gas compressor.

Then compressed air is forced to a compression tank through an outlet valve. Some air compressors using cooling fins to cool the gas before it enters the tank. This will help reduce the amount of condensation in the tank. Water buildup in the tank is unavoidable, but it can be managed, the tank will need to be drained periodically. The draining frequency depends on the air intake cooling system and the compressor running time. A larger compressed air tank will require less frequent draining, simply because the larger volume of the tank has a lower ratio of water to air in the tank.

The compressed gas can enter the pipe now or go through a more effective air filtration system if needed. It may be a multi-stage air filtration system to ensure the highest quality results.
